5 Awesome Cocktails to Try This Weekend

If not, drinks can help.  If you are looking for a change from wine or beer but clearly can’t go to a cocktail bar, here are 5 awesome cocktails to try at home.

1.) AVIATION LEMON COCKTAIL 

A classic example of a premium gin drink, the Aviation Lemon Cocktail is a delightful combination of sweet and sour. This delicious gin cocktail recipe is refreshingly flavorsome and will surely brighten up a gloomy day. Ingredients:

  • 45 ml Aviation Gin
  • 30 ml Lemon Juice
  • 25 ml Sugar Syrup (1:1)
  • Splash Soda Water
  • 1 Lemon Slice
  • Crushed Ice

Method: i.)  Fill 3/4th of your glass with crushed ice.  ii.) Pour the Aviation Gin, lemon juice, and sugar syrup (simple syrup) into a cocktail shaker and shake well. If you don’t have a shaker, you can stir the mixture with a bar spoon.  iii.) Pour the drink mixture into a tall glass over crushed ice. iv.) Add a splash of soda on top. v.) Garnish with a lemon slice. 

2.) HARVEY WALLBANGER

 

The Harvey Wall Banger is a modern classic vodka cocktail recipe that originated in the 1950s and was a smash hit in the 1970s. With its smooth texture and flavor, it becomes a perfectly refreshing option in your arsenal of lockdown cocktails.  Ingredients:

  • 50 ml of Vodka
  • 17 ml Vanilla Liqueur 
  • 100 ml Orange Juice
  • 1 Orange Slice
  • Crushed Ice

Method: i.) Add the vodka, vanilla liqueur, and orange juice into a cocktail shaker and gently shake. Alternatively, you can blend with a spoon.  ii.) Fill a glass with crushed ice until half full.  iii.) Pour the mixture in a glass over the ice.  iv.) Top up with some more crushed ice. v.) Garnish with an orange slice.  

3.) BASIL AND GINGER LEMONADE

 

The Basil and Ginger Lemonade; as the name itself suggests, the recipe is made up of fresh hand-picked ingredients that give it an exotic balance of sweet and tart flavors.  Ingredients: 

  • 40 ml of Vodka
  • Soda Water
  • 1.5 cups Water
  • Sugar Syrup
  • Lemon Juice
  • Ginger Juice
  • 1 Lemon or Lime Slice
  • 4-5 Basil Leaves
  • Crushed Ice

Method: i.) Firstly, to make sugar syrup (also known as simple syrup), combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar in a saucepan. Cook on medium until the syrup has a slightly thick consistency. Let it cool before use.  ii.) For the lemonade, add half a cup of water, lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of sugar syrup in a mixing bowl and stir well. Crush 2-3 basil leaves and mix with the lemonade.  iii.) In a cocktail shaker, add crushed ice, vodka, basil lemonade, and ginger juice and shake well.  iv.) Pour the mixture into a tall glass and top with soda water (club soda or sparkling water).  v.) Garnish with a lemon or lime slice and basil leaves. 

4.) CUCUMBER AND MINT MOJITO

 

The Cucumber and Mint Mojito is an ideal refreshing summer rum recipe and is fast becoming a classic cocktail.  Ingredients: 

  • 40 ml of White Rum
  • Sparkling Water
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar Syrup
  • 1 tablespoon Lime Juice
  • 2 tablespoons Cucumber Juice
  • 3-4 Fresh Mint Leaves
  • 4-5 Cucumber Slices
  • 2 Lime Slices
  • Crushed Ice

Method: i.) Add mint leaves, cucumber slices, cucumber juice, lime juice, and a lime slice into a cocktail shaker and shake well.   ii.) In the same shaker, add white rum, simple syrup and crushed ice, and shake again.  iii.) Pour the entire mixture into a glass. iv.) Top off with sparkling water or club soda and stir well.  v.) Garnish with a lime slice and mint leaves. 

5.) WATERMELON-POMEGRANATE PUNCH

The Watermelon-Pomegranate Punch is a fruity, tangy cocktail recipe with some unique flavors.  Ingredients:

  • 40 ml of Sparkling Wine
  • .75 cup Watermelon and Pomegranate Juice
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • A pinch of Pink Salt
  • Soda Water
  • 2 Mint Leaves
  • Crushed Ice

Method:

i.) Add crushed ice, lemon juice, and pink salt into a cocktail shaker and shake hard. 

ii.) Pour the entire mixture into a glass. iii.) Add watermelon and pomegranate fruit juice to the glass. 

iv.) Top with soda water and stir well.

v.) Garnish with mint leaves.
