If you’re one of those true coffee lovers, you might find yourself drinking three, four, or even more cups of coffee per day. One cup for boosting your energy in the morning, another cup with your lunch, another cup sipping along your most-deserved dessert in the afternoon and another one for a late afternoon pick-me-up. I totally get you.
Its warming taste, a little bit bitter, a little bit sweet, with the creamiest milk foam on the top. And enjoy a cup or two a day is perfectly ok.
But…
What if you are addicted to caffeine and you’re experiencing some of the negative side effects?
You might already think about quitting coffee for good, or you may have already tried to quit. Did it not work for you? Don’t worry, I have found 10 healthy coffee alternatives that come with some incredible health benefits.
10 HEALTHY COFFEE ALTERNATIVES
1) GREEN TEA
Green tea has very little caffeine, in fact only a fraction of the amount found in coffee. It’s also packed with antioxidants and positively affects your health.
If you drink it regularly, you reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes and even cancer! It supports a good brain function and can naturally help with managing your weight.
While it’s been said that up to 8 cups of green tea per day may be safe, the caffeine adds up and would likely cause side effects for most of us. Green tea may also reduce the absorption of iron from food and therefore I wouldn’t recommend more than 2-3 cups per day.
It’s also recommended to not consume green tea on an empty stomach in the morning. Green tea increases the level of stomach acid which can cause nausea. Therefore, it’s better to have it with or after breakfast, a piece of fruit or a snack.
2) KOMBUCHA TEA
Kombucha tea has recently appeared everywhere where healthy food is. Have you heard about it but not sure what it is? Simply said, kombucha is a fermented mixture of yeast and bacteria. It’s perfectly suitable for vegans and vegetarians as no animal products are added.
Drinking kombucha tea can positively affect your body. It gives you energy and it also acts as an antioxidant. It’s good for enhancing memory, reducing blood pressure, and regulating bowel movements and it’s a good source of probiotics.
3) WHITE TEA
White tea is very similar to green tea regarding the health benefits it has for our body. It contains a lot of antioxidants. In fact, white tea has the highest antioxidant level of any tea. It helps reduce high blood pressure and fights free radicals which negatively affect our immune system.
Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, white tea is known for its great effects on our skin, hair, and nails. It’s very helpful in fighting acne and also helps with other skin conditions, such as wrinkles, dryness, rosacea, wounds, and psoriasis. It helps to prevent hair loss and strengthen nails, bones, and teeth.

4) ROOIBOS TEA
Rooibos tea not only tastes and smells nice, but it provides you with many important vitamins and minerals. It supplies you with zinc, iron, manganese and calcium. Despite having zero caffeine, it loads your body with so much energy!
Rooibos tea is low in tannins and high in antioxidants which can reduce the risk of heart disease and help maintain stable blood sugar levels. It has a positive effect on a nervous system and promotes beautiful clean skin and strong bones and teeth.
5) YERBA MATE TEA
If you’re looking for something to give you energy in the morning, drink yerba mate tea. Containing three to four times less caffeine than coffee, yerba mate tea will provide you with the same buzz like a cup of coffee which is much needed in the morning!
Yerba mate is very high in antioxidants and contains 24 other vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, E, C, B-complex, iron, magnesium, calcium, and some of the essential amino acids! Apart from its great nutritious profile, it can also aid with weight loss and boost your memory.
6) CAFFEINE-FREE LATTES & ELIXIRS
There are many delicious caffeine free creations that you can either buy or make yourself. The Naughty Nutrition team has been hooked on this Fermented Turmeric & CBD Infused Latte that is not only super delicious but also great for your gut and your mind.
If you want something ready-made then you can opt for the below mushroom elixir mixes from Four Sigmatic.
7) HERBAL COFFEE SUBSTITUTES
If you’ve never heard of coffee substitutes like Pero, Teeccino or Dandy Blend then you’re missing a lot. They’re natural instant drink blends with zero caffeine and low in acidity. Basically, very similar to a cup of coffee and they even give you the same flavour as a freshly brewed coffee.
Those are typically a blend of roasted barley, rye, and chicory along with other flavourful ingredients. However, most of these blends, apart from Dandy Blend are not gluten-free.
These options contain many minerals and vitamins, and they’re rich in dietary fiber and prebiotics. Without the caffeine jitters, you may even find that your blood sugars are more balanced.
8) COCONUT WATER
Not only does coconut water tastes great, but it also leaves you hydrated for a very long time. If you feel quite thirsty after exercising, try drinking coconut water. You will love it!
Coconut water contains vital electrolytes that our body needs and it’s just a great and satisfying option if you don’t feel like drinking just plain water or tea.

9) COFFEE LEAF TEA
Wize Monkey coffee leaf tea has been one of our go to alternatives. It’s an award-winning tea made from actual coffee leafs, but without the nasty side effects that coffee has for many of us. It contains about 20mg of caffeine per cup (6-10 times less than coffee) which leaves you with sustained energy levels and clear focus.
Coffee leaf tea contains plenty of antioxidants, is a strong anti-inflammatory and has been used in traditional medicine for centuries in India, Eastern Asia, and Central America.
10) PEPPERMINT TEA
For those who love a peppermint flavour, this tea is a great solution for quitting coffee. It has a slightly sweet taste which definitely satisfies your sweet tooth anytime during the day. It’s also very refreshing and has a beautiful aroma.
Peppermint also helps with stomach aches and may help cramps during your period as well as indigestion and diarrhea, but may be counter-indicated with heartburn. Peppermint tea helps you stay calm, relaxed and also reduces stress.
Swap caffeine for healthy alternatives little by little.
Try to reduce your caffeine intake gradually. Every day, instead of one cup of coffee, drink one cup of above mentioned healthy coffee alternatives. You will soon notice that you and your body are in better condition. You will feel great and have so much sustainable energy!
