Cookies, cakes, pudding, pies, ice cream, creamy drinks, egg nog… Yep, the holidays are sure filled with some delicious sweets that are not as nutritious as we’d like them to be.
You’re probably looking forward to grandma’s shortbread every single year. We know, there’s no avoiding that one or your favourite dessert of the holiday season, except by the time you’ve had 10 cookies the regret sinks in. Well, we don’t believe in food regrets and you shouldn’t consume any food with that thought in mind. Yet we do recognize that consuming a large amount of processed desserts and sugar, may leave you feeling heavy, bloated and tired.
So, we’ve been hanging out in our Naughty Kitchen pre-holiday season to come up with some awesome recipes that are not only better for you, but they taste Uh-MAZING! (we promise).
And don’t worry, we’re not taking away any taste, we just want to give you purely delicious and healthy-ier options for the party.
And did we mention that these recipes are SOOO simple to make. Not a joke, just the truth. Set aside minutes, and people will think you slaved in the kitchen.
Here are your amazing desserts:
1. Minty Chocolate Mousse
Probably one of the most surprising recipes, mostly because it needs minutes to make and a few hours to set. Put it in the fridge sloshing around and bubbly, 3-4 hours later you have a rich minty chocolate mousse. Top with coconut whipped cream and crushed up candy cane (vegan if you can) and this two-bite dessert will blow your guests away. Find the recipe here.
2. Peanut Butter Cookies
Peanut butter cookies are one of the best things around (in our opinion), but they are usually jam packed with sugar, white flour and processed peanut butter. Although these cookies still have quite a fair amount of sugar in them, it’s coconut and cane sugar making it higher in nutrients then your traditional white sugar.
These cookies are also gluten free, vegan, refined sugar free, grain free and high in protein (making that sugar that it does contain digested by your body in a slower fashion). They only have 6 ingredients and can be made in one bowl. SO. Easy. And no one would ever know they are better for you! Find the recipe here.
3. Cacao Dusted Soft Caramels
Traditional caramel is typically made of butter, sugar and syrups. It’s anything but teeth friendly and in our mind, not so tasty. These caramels are sweetened with nothing but wholesome dates and made with delicious coconut oil. You can dust them with cacao or make them more chocolatey and completely cover them with dark chocolate. It’s a satisfying and nutritious dessert with every bite. Find the recipe here.
